LEIA Health raises €1.4M pre-seed to reinvent post-pregnancy health for the digital age

LEIA Health, a Swedish Femtech company supporting new parents the year after giving birth, has raised €1.4 million in a pre-seed led by People Ventures, joined by Norrsken and Unconventional Ventures. The startup also secured follow-on investments from previous and renowned angel investors such as The Case for Her and female angel investor OctaQuest.

Out of the 140 million women giving birth each year, 90% will experience physical and mental difficulties the year after, also called the postpartum period, with the majority going unsupported and undiagnosed.

LEIA is on a mission to change this with their postpartum health tracker. The app offers personalized programs with medically validated information and digital tools to optimize recovery and overall health. LEIA also screens women for postpartum depression and birth injuries to identify women at risk at a much earlier stage guiding them to the relevant healthcare provider.

A pilot with Sweden’s top maternity care clinic earlier this year showed that 90% of the mothers felt the app delivered great value and 90% would recommend the clinic based on their collaboration with LEIA. Since their February launch LEIA has identified twice as many women at risk of postpartum depression than today’s average.

  • LEIA offers digital support to prepare and help new mothers feel informed, safe and empowered in their motherhood journey. The lack of data collected around postpartum issues is a massive barrier for offering preventive measures and personalized support. With our app we’re building a unique data-set that will help shape the future of parental health - says Astrid Gyllenkrok Kristensen, CEO and Co-Founder of LEIA.

The app also works as a digital complement to physical postpartum care as the user can share her insights with her midwife to enable more efficient and personalized care.

  • LEIA is our first investment in Sweden, and we’re happy about welcoming them to our portfolio. As a digital health investor we’re very excited to see an innovative solution to a global and growing issue. The LEIA team's previous experience in building and scaling tech, health tech and fem tech companies gives them a strong foundation to deliver on their mission to build the future of postpartum and parental health, says Christian Damsgaard Tost, GP People Ventures.
